Primitive Pottery Experience 2025

I have teamed up with my fellow potter Keri Lowe from Fibre and Earth Studios to run exciting new experience workshops for Spring/Summer 2025. You will learn pottery skills used by our ancestors in ancient history. These workshops will take place in a beautiful woodland location near Lenwade (the exact location and directions including what3words will be sent following your booking). These workshops are for ages 16 and over only, and are suitable for beginners and those with more experience.

Each workshop runs over the course of 3 sessions:

Day 1 is a full day making session using a variety   of clays including locally sourced raw clay from our region. You will learn how to handbuild pots in the style of our bronze age ancestors. You will also have time learning how to throw pots on a traditional potter’s kick wheel and a replica Roman potter’s “stick” wheel.  You will also learn how to burnish your pots ready for the pit-firing session. (Start time 9.30am, finish 5pm)

Day 2 is a half day session to prepare your pots ready for firing. We will be making a primitive pit-fire kiln and preparing a sawdust firing for your work. The pots will be loaded into the kilns to be fired overnight. (Start time 9.30am, finish 1.30pm)

Day 3 is another half day session to unload the kilns after they have cooled to retrieve and clean your fired pots. (Start time 1.30pm, finish 5pm)

Course Dates:

Option 1: Day 1 - April  26th, Day 2  - May 24th, Day 3 May 25th

Option 2: Day 1 - June 14th, Day 2 - June 28th, Day 3 June 29th

Course price £240 per person
